FORMER ARTISTS

2005 Residents

Winter/Spring

Vanessa Renwick, Portland-based filmmaker, has been called a "cinematic rabble-rouser." Her iconoclastic work reflects an interest in place, relationships between bodies and landscapes, and all sorts of borders. More about Vanessa's work can be seen at www.odoka.org.

Boston playwright Sean David Bennett's residency was delayed by nearly two months because of the premiere production of his play, "A House Divided," in New York City. While at the Refuge, Sean completed his latest play, "Trick," the story of a long-term spousal abuse seen through the eyes of a child. In 2004, he received the Edward Albee Fellowship as a playwright.

Rebecca Roush (Seattle, WA) is a bead artist who is inspired by Columbia Basin petroglyphs and pictographs, to female figures, to a current series of crows specific to Seattle. Her large bas-relief beaded images can be found in numerous private collections around the country. Rebecca chronicled her stay with a wonderful online photo diary here: http://www.februaryseventh.com/mar.htm.
