WHO WE ARE

The Montana Artists Refuge is run by a Board of Directors consisting of professional artists and others whose expertise, such as financial, organizational, and business knowledge further the organization's development.

The Board is open to representatives from surrounding communities: Basin, Boulder, Butte, Bozeman, Billings, and Helena. Board structure includes an Executive Committee consisting of the officers, and formalized and ad hoc committees--which use both board members and volunteers.

Day-to-day office operations and administration of residencies is handled by the Residency Coordinator with assistance from the Executive Director. A National Advisory Committee of professional artists, arts administrators and supporters advocates nationally for the Refuge and assists with strategic planning and fundraising.

Debbie Sheehan

WELCOME DEBBIE SHEEHAN!

We are pleased to introduce Debbie Sheehan, the new Residency Coordinator / Office Manager for the Montana Artists Refuge.  She is thrilled to be here, and hopes to continue the exceptional caring and dedication that Joy Lewis brought to the job.

Originally from East Aurora, a town in western New York, she received a BA in Spanish with a Secondary Education Certificate at New York State University at Potsdam.  She found her way to Basin soon thereafter in January of 1977.  From 1991 to 2006, she and her family--husband Sean and daughter Willow--lived in Bozeman where she taught Spanish at Belgrade High School and completed a Masters of Education in 2000.  After rebuilding their house there, they promptly sold it and moved back home to Basin!

Debbie is a fabric artist, making quilts, clothes, knitted items and various other fiber projects for the last 30 years.  Since moving back, she and other local artists are painting silk scarves in Basin.  Future projects include working with Sean on their home, a log cabin and shop up Basin Creek, and nurturing her interest in oil painting.

Contact Debbie at the Refuge by calling 406.225.3500 or send an email to MAR.
